Zebra Longwing – Americana Collection

Zebra Longwing Heliconius charithonia was designated the state butterfly of Florida in 1996. This specimen, found on Shepherds Needles Bidens pilosa near a heavily wooded area in Monticello, Florida, has been verified and accepted in the photographic library of the Butterflies and Moths of North America (BAMONA) project. According to the organization’s web site, the Butterflies and Moths of North America project is an ambitious effort to collect and provide access to quality-controlled data about butterflies and moths for the continent of North America from Panama to Canada.
