A topographic map of the Garden Island of Kaua’i that includes Nawiliwili Bay and Lihu’e notes this site simply as Lava Arch. When ocean surge aligns with the mouth of the bay the calm water usually found in the pool under the lava becomes a white rush of foam across the black lava rock as the waves crash through the narrow lava opening.
