Seen and Unseen – Americana Series
As with many scenes in America there are things Seen and Unseen. Information may not be solely visually conveyed by reflected light from rusting metal. A photojournalist attempts to present maximum visual information in a single frame. An artist complicates the meaning of a photograph by using multiple layers of symbolism. In this case, is the intended message a political statement about how changes in foreign trade may lead to bankruptcies in the American Heartland? What does the rusting metal symbolize? What do the highlights and shadows mean? As a viewer, what do you see and what remains unseen?
