Royal Poinciana Delonix regia is widely cultivated across the tropics as an ornamental tree. Although listed as a "Least Concerned" species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species, the natural vegetation of Madagascar is under threat from habitat loss and fragmentation, as a result of conversion of land for slash-and-burn agriculture, grazing, charcoal production and collection of firewood.1
